IN GOD’S IMAGE

I am created in the image of my Heavenly Mother. Knowing this truth makes me feel capable, confident and divine but most of my life I haven’t thought much about this fact because Heavenly Mother has often been overlooked in our culture. I’m grateful that’s changing.

In the world, God is commonly thought of as singularly male but Eve was not created in the image of a man. She was formed in the image of a woman; her glorious Mother in Heaven.

In the Old Testament we’re taught, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness...male and female.” (Genesis 1:26-27)

The Hebrew word for God in this verse is Elohim, which means Gods (plural). From this perspective Adam and Eve as a couple were formed in the image of God, their Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother together.

Modern scripture confirms this interpretation: “So the Gods went down to organize man in their own image, in the image of the Gods to form they him, male and female to form they them.” (Abraham 4:27)

I created this painting to encourage people to think about God, their Heavenly Parents, and to ponder their relationship to Them. We are each created in Their image and there is power in understanding that truth.

“All human beings - male and female - are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents.” (The Family, A Proclamation to the World)
